"Marching to Mars" A 4 player Carrier skirmish map for ORB by The Stress Puppy. Created with the ORB Scenario Editor using extra textures from the JPL Planetary Maps site. My 2nd Orb map in a series of Solar System maps. Im also working on "Venusian Intrusion"(Venus), The "Trojan" asteroids (a jupiter map), "Klingons around Uranus" (names a joke, map is real hehehe), and "A Taste of Armaggedon"(beat the bad guys b4 the asteroids, and YOU slam into earth). This is not your typical carrier skirmish. I didnt like the fact that in normal carrier skirmish's you started out with an "unarmed" carrier with no way to build cap ships. you relied on your fighters for protection...Not here >:)) you start with an Armed Carrier, and a Destroyer. Use them well. There are various asteroids floating around mars orbit, as we all know in reality there are no asteroids around mars except the 2 martian moons. these extra rocks are there only for gameplay purpouses. I made the resorces mostly scarce, while theres alot of asteriods with resources, they dont have very much in them. with 2 exceptions, Phobos, and Diemos (the 2 rocks orbiting close to mars). i made them with a ridiculous amount of resources so all players will converge and fight over them :) I noticed while playing this map, the AI has a very nasty habit of coming after YOU (and not each other) with both cap ships. which is ether insane, or brilliant depending on your situation. i advise to hide your cap ships well untill you have some research done and the RU/SU's to build a good fighter escort to fend off these AI suicide attacks. Installation: Unzip all contents into your ORB directory. the map comes with its own textures for mars and phobos/diemos. Issues: None on my computer as of yet. Lower end systems may not be able to load the Mars textures. That may be because they are 1024x1024 resolution, and some video cards may not be able to load them. An easy fix is to just use your favorete image editing program like Photoshop or paint shop pro, and reduce the resolution of the mars1, and mars2 textures to 512x512 or lower. Feel free to use the scenario editor to tweak any of the map settings to your liking. if you think resources are too low or high use the scenario editor to adjust to your taste. or to add more cap ships or change the game type from carrier to spaceport...etc.
